If you’ve ever looked at your MacBook Pro and wished you had just a bit more storage, you’re not alone.

External drives are bulky, and internal upgrades are expensive.

But what if I told you that you can instantly add 256GB of storage for only $10 in just 5 minutes — and it stays hidden in your MacBook like it was built-in?

The Hack: Use a Cheap SD Card — Cut to Fit!

I ordered a 256GB SD card from Amazon for about $10 — a super affordable option for quick, expandable storage.

Now here’s the trick:
Most SD cards stick out when you insert them into your MacBook Pro’s SD card slot, making them inconvenient for long-term use.

So, I carefully measured the exact depth of the SD card slot and then cut the SD card down to size — just enough so it fits flush with the edge of the MacBook.

Not too deep, not too shallow.

⚠️ Important: Be very precise. Measure properly and cut slowly using a craft knife or box cutter. You want it to sit snugly, like a native part of your laptop.

The Result?

Now, I have an extra 256GB of storage always plugged in, acting like a permanent extension of my MacBook's internal drive.

I use it for storing media, files, backups, and anything that doesn’t need blazing-fast speeds.

Does It Work?

So far, it’s working perfectly.

It mounts instantly on boot and hasn’t popped out or caused any issues.

You can easily get a bigger storage card too — many SD cards come in 512GB and even 1TB sizes for a little more money.
